Remember when we were like, "Amps got the champs"? Well we still do!
Two years ago we sent our lead roaster, Andy, to co-judge Copa Occidente '21 where he got to taste a ton of amazing coffees from western and central Huila, Colombia. The chillest of hosts, Osito Coffee, put on such successful events, they gained enough interest to combine this competition with their other, Copa Suaceña, and open it up to producers in southern Huila in 2022. Thus, Copa de Oro analyzed over 150 submissions and we were incredibly lucky to be able get our hands on a bag of the Grand Champion!
Diego manages his farm, La Fortuna ("the fortune" in English), with his brother, Oscar, and father, Martiniano, at 1820 meters above sea level in La Argentina, San Augustín, Huila. Their contest winning Pink Bourbon is fermented in Cherry for 36 hours, pulped, fermented another 24 hours, washed, and dried in a parabolic drier for 20 days. He and his life partner, Lucy (who is also a coffee producer), plan to use the winnings to move out of their parents' home and build a house on his farm to start their lives together. They also plan to expand their crop and introduce Yellow Gesha.
This coffee is truly a stunner. I could not help but laugh at how good it was upon my first sip. Unfortunately, we were only able to grab a small amount, but there should be enough to go around! It's insanely clean and dripping with juicy notes of pineapple, black cherry, and rooibos tea! Make sure you get a chance to try it and impress your friends!
