In the highlands of Western Ethiopia surrounded by smallholder farms and dense forests, you can find the Telila Washing Station where Mike Mamo continues his father's legacy in the coffee industry working alongside his team to focus on quality control and traceability of smallholder farms.
Telila sets itself apart for its thorough drying and lot separation upon receipt. It is not an uncommon practice in Ethiopia to group coffee lots together and simply name the coffee after the washing station. Telila takes it a step further by keeping coffees from particular neighborhoods separated, thus increasing traceability back to its origins.
In 1974 the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) developed varieties 74110 and 74112 in the Oromia region. These "twin sibling" plants come from the same mother tree resulting in similar flavor profiles and qualities as they are disease resistant and maintain high crop yield year after year.
Like many regions around the world, recent harvest seasons have brought their own set of challenges. The 2024/2025 harvest began unusually early, which typically isn't much of a conflict, but due to little to no ripening rain the harvest resulted in uneven cherry development. In many cases, cherries went straight from green to dry without properly ripening.
Though, with these challenges Mamo and his team were able to successfully harvest delicious tasting coffee! We found that this coffee offers delicate floral notes of Jasmine, bright acidic notes of Clementine, and smooth sweet notes of Honeydew.
We are pleased to be offering this coffee from our importer OSITO.
